Cancun Sport Fishing has a shorter history than in many other fishing sites of the region. Traditional fishing was performed by the Mayas in Yucatan for a long time, before Cancun even existed. At the end of the Second World War, U.S. war veterans came to Cancun to do a little sport fishing for a bit of R&R. The southern area of Mexico became a frequent retreat for war vets.
The beauty of the Mexican Caribbean attracts all sorts of visitors, most of whom tend to extend their stay with each passing year. The sport fishermen who came taught the local fishermen of Boca Paila tips and techniques, which later helped these fishermen to become fishing guides when Cancun was founded as a city in 1970.
Over the years, fishing in the Riviera Maya has steadily grown and anglers from all over the world come to fish in these waters. Come and see what it's all about.
